My family holiday essentials

Hello!

If you haven't already caught hints from my last blogs very shortly I'm off to see the world! First stop France.

As we speak I'm on the train to Birmingham Airport, fingers crossed I've not forgotten to pack anything!

My Uncle and Aunt own a beautiful chateaux in the countryside just outside Poitier, France. I've only been once when I was rather small but I have fond memories of running through the vineyards and playing in the pool so I can't wait to return as an adult and see just how much of it I remember.

Coming with me is also my little sister, who will be travelling over from Switzerland to join us, and of course my little cousins who will be coming along with my Aunt and Uncle.

While I'm in France I've decided to make the brave decision to visit Paris on my own! I've been to France a few times in my teenage years for school trips, choir and orchestra trips...but I've never really travelled outside the UK on my own, and barely seen Paris. So while I'm over the sea I thought I'd make the most of it and I've booked myself into a very sweet hotel just a small walk from Notre Dame for a couple of days before I hop on the train to meet my sister and family in Poitier.

I was umming and arring over what to take for so long I've finally come up with a good bunch of things that I'm going to be taking with me and I thought I'd share them with you if you have any family visits or holidays on the horizon.

The essentials:

The basic clothing selection, casuals for the day, something nice for a meal, and a couple of day-to-night pieces, and of course a swim suit for that pool.

I find it so hard choosing clothes to take when I travel so my usual rule is to take one statement piece for every day, maybe a necklace, a skirt, a top, and then to fill out the rest with basics...sandals, jeans...

Sandals - Something to suit all occasions, a pair of sunglasses..., a smart handbag for those nice days out and my trusty Pull&bear rucksack for all the long walks.

For toiletries, I'm only taking the bare essentials as I'm quite looking forward to a fairly make up free week so give my skin a break too! (If you'd like to see what's in my makeup bag let me know and I'll do a travel beauty & health post).

A few books, and notebooks for holiday writing and reading. At home I spend far too much time stuck in front of a computer screen and I'm really looking forward to a fairly technology free week...

Saying that I'll still be bringing the laptop and of course the camera for the oh so important family snaps.

A travel guide of course.

And last but not least a big craft supply to have fun with the kids!
This is my absolute favourite thing in the whole packing list  - I can't wait to dive in! I did a big craft haul especially for this trip, so if you'd like to see what I bought you can read my Craft Haul post from last week!

I've tried to travel light-ish, but still pack a few things for fun and excitement with my little cousins.

I've also thrown in Uno and Bananagram - some of my favourites.

I'm really looking forward to the trip and can't wait to share everything we get up to with you.

Wish me luck getting on the right plane!
Byee!

  1. I'm the same with clothes when packing, plus I always start with too many and then narrow it down. Since we travelled for a month though, we I go on a travelling trips (instead of visiting family) I'm a bit better at packing now :)
